abstract In order to obtain the porous ceramic material from alumina the polymeric sponge method was applied. To prepare slurries the water thinnable polymeric binders prepared in the form of water dispersions comprising inbuilt amphiphilic macromonomers were used. The mixture of diammonium citrate and citric acid was applied as a dispersing agent. The polyurethane sponge of density 0.0240 g/cm3 and medium pore diameter 300 μm as a polymer matrix was used. The parameters of slurries obtained by using of selected water thinnable polymeric binders with different amounts of added binders and different additions of dispersing agent have been studied. The results of investigations of obtained material and the results of preliminary studies of composite ceramics-polymer based on it are described in the paper. Poly(methyl methacrylate) was the polymer introduced to the pores of the ceramic porous material by filling the pores with the monomer. To increase the adhesion between the ceramic matrix and polymer an organosilicon coupling agent - (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane was used. In Table 1 the results of measurements of physical parameters for binders used in investigations are presented. In Table 2 the results of studies of slurries and obtained samples with different binders and different amounts of added dispersant are presented. Table 3 contains results of studies concerning influence of amounts of the binder on properties of the sintered samples. In Table 4 the filling degrees of pores of the porous ceramic material with poly(methyl methacrylate) after following repetitions of polymerization process are presented. Figure 1 shows the picture of ceramic porous material microstructure, Figure 2 presents the picture of studied ceramic- polymeric composite sample. The both pictures were obtained from an optical microscope, 30x enlargement. Key words: ceramics, composite, polymer, water thinnable binder, pre-adhesive agent
