abstract Durability and reliability of abrasive system depends on of the construction of friction system and physicochemical properties of the applied materials. These characteristics may by obtain choosing optimal composition of the friction materials e.g. binding agent, modificators, fillers. One of these materials is amorphous carbon which increase thermal stability of friction materials. But hard particles amorphous carbon may increase wear of friction partners. The results of investigation of the influence of glass carbon in conventional friction materials their tribological properties have been shown. Investigation has been led pin-on-disc system for velocity v = 1,0 m/s and load p = 0,05 MPa in friction time t = 30 h. Addition 10% glass like carbon into conventional friction materials leads to decreasing coefficient of friction and increasing also abrasive wear (Tab. 1). Addition of the glass carbon into friction materials changes a surface of cast iron sample (Figs. 2 and 3). On the surface of the sample containing glass like carbon do not appear furrows and microcutting. The results of investigation let to make a construction, it is possible apply the to modification of friction materials. The glass like carbon may be apply to the producing of new friction materials, for example brake disc.
