abstract The aim of this work was the evaluation of abrasion resistance and hardness of the alloy superficial composite. A few steel castings with alloy superficial composite layer were made. This kind of composite can be obtained by locating the premould inside the mould. The premould consists of some alloy ingredients for example Cr, Mn, Mo, C. They form diffusion layer full of desirable carbides during the process of mould filling. The premould components are bonded by surfacial melting agent. There is shown the structure of superficial composite in Figure 1. Three zones were marked: a), b) and c). The zone a) is an area of the premould. The white secretion is the carbides phase made of steel warp and high-carbonate ferrochromium molecules. The grey secretion is the structure similar to the alloy of steel warp. The zone b) is the cross - zone between melted premould with bigger superficial participation of carbides and the area without carbonate on the side of the core. The structure of steel was marked as the zone c). The research was carried out with use of Skoda-Savine equipment according to the PN-67 M-04306 norm with different loads of 20, 50, 80 and 150 N. The scheme of research were presented in Figures 2 and 3. The results were presented in Table 1 and in Figures 4-9. The waste of wear for base material and composite were compared. The hardness measurement of both the surface of the sample and the place of wear were conducted. The results were shown in Table 2 and in Figures 10-17. Presented studies reviled that the superficial alloy layer is characterized by significantly different tribological properties than the base alloy. The results have shown that ferrochromium premould had the strongest influence on abrasion resistance and hardness.
