abstract The tribological properties of composite materials reinforced with titanium diboride were investigated. Abrasion resistance tests were carried out at room temperature in a ball-on-disc system. Balls with a diameter of 3.14 mm were used as the counter-samples. The effect of the TiB2 content and counter-sample material (Al2O3, Si3N4, ZrO2, AISI52100 steel) on the coefficient of friction and wear rate of the sintered composites and 316L steel was determined. After the abrasion tests the sample surfaces were examined by scanning electron microscopy. The obtained results show that the tribological properties depend on the test conditions and content of the TiB2 reinforcing phase.
