abstract The paper presents the results of the tribological properties investigations of aluminium matrix composite (AlSi12CuNiMg2), containing heterophase reinforcement. The composite reinforced with the mixture of the aluminium oxide (Al2O3) and amorphous glass carbon were subjected to investigations. For the heterophase composite glass carbon was ap-plied to modify frictional properties. The investigations were conducted with the use of tribological T-01 tester and the fric-tional partner for composite was cast iron. In the paper the influence of the heterophase reinforcement on the investigated composite samples friction coefficient was assessed. The assessment of the influence of the reinforcement particles distribu-tion resulting from parameters of the adopted producing technology on the friction coefficient was also accomplished. The results of the friction coefficient and wear investigations allowed to assess the influence of the glass carbon addition on the tribological characteristics change. It was stated that the replacement of the parts of the reinforcement with the glass carbon particles caused the friction coefficient and the wear of the heterophase composite reduction and cooperating with them grey cast iron as well. At the same time it could be stated that the application for the composite products shaping centrifugal cast-ing technology may have triggered vertical diversification in the reinforcing particles distribution and, following on from this diverse tribological properties depending on the place of the sample taking.
