abstract In this study, the results of fatigue tests using fuzzy set methodology are considered. Cyclic loading causes damage, reducing the strength until the material can no longer sustain even service loading. The experiments demonstrate the scatter of results. Fuzzy set analysis has been proposed in order to estimate the uncertainty in the evaluation of stiffness and critical number of cycles corresponding to final fatigue damage. The results of fatigue-life tests using fuzzy set methodology are also considered when the experimental results are given in the form of a histogram. The fuzzy set and vertex method in conjunction with finite element (FE) computations are introduced to evaluate buckling loads.
